As much as I was her son,  you can’t look me in the eye and say that she did not love you just as much as she loved me.”  Without hesitation,  Ilya brings a hand up to John’s cheek and gently cups it.  Beneath stone cold eyes,  lies admiration and love for John,  and he knows John can see it,  can see past all the barriers and walls he had built over the years. “I don’t think I will ever truly be over her death,  or come to terms fully with it.  I know it wont ever stop affecting me,  or memories of the past wont stop haunting my dreams;  but I know wherever she is,  she watches over me.  As well as you.”  A soft confession,  washed in hope and sincerity.  Though,  Ilya does not quite believe in an afterlife,  he hopes that Lottie waits for him and embraces him in a warm,  loving hug when the two see each other again.

Survivors guilt— the mental and emotional stress that developed when he survived against all odds while those who deserved longer, died— it was the perfect way to describe what he had been feeling for the past couple of years.  It gnaws inside him,  nestled deep behind his ribcage.  The feeling had been squashed in the recent months,  finding joy in life,  and peace with others deaths.  It still pops up on occasion,  the feeling of surviving an awful event but at what cost? 
            
            
            Those thoughts don’t linger too much,  he’s facing his husband,  staring directly into John’s eyes.  At first,  he wants to protest the sudden change,  playfully scold him for not giving him a heads up before he was flipped but everything dies on his tongue.  It’s a short,  and sweet kiss but his mind seems to short circuit.  Naturally,  John seems to have that effect on him,  though he doesn’t complain at all.  The moment does not last long as the two pull away,  and Ilya takes the moment to rest his weary head against John’s.  It feels good to have a consistent support in your life,  both physically and emotionally.  It feels even better when he speaks,  ethereal as if God himself had decided to speak to Ilya himself.  It feels blasphemous almost,  to love John more than he loved God,  but only John had Ilya wanting to worship him for the rest of his life.

BREATHE.   ❜͟ ❜͟         the subject of lottie begins to rest on john’s mind,   macmillan and roise begin to cloud his thoughts.    names of the past.   he was conditioned to move on despite the hardships life throws at him,  it was truly a  (gift)  to sit and settle down with his emotions like this.    and truly unpack any sort of emotional baggage that comes with death.  in an odd way,  ilya gives him a certain clarity and perspective john would’ve ghosted over if he was alone.   maybe he was hardened in a way,   but ilya always kept him so  (in touch.)   by grounding ilya,  john lost himself.   john was always so analytical with his emotions.   he never sat in them.   they were either ignored or acknowledged in a clinical degree.    but ilya?   he loves so deeply.   it’s subtle,   hidden underneath layers,  obfuscated away from everyone’s eyes.   people say john loves more than ilya does,  but then you see ilya pouring his very heart and soul into being a better version of himself for his loved one’s.   it’s a small action over the course of years,  but no less sincere.
