I never thought a child could bring me to tears, (unless they hurt me but um… we don’t talk about that,) but I guess I was wrong.
I’m a CIT (counciler in training for anyone who doesn’t know what that stands for,) for a climbing camp. Today was my third day, and I’ve been helping quite a few kids with challenging themselves and completing hard climbs and whatnot. Theres this one kid, (imma call him J for the sake of this,) and he is a)scared of hights, and b) really really really bad at giving himself credit for ANYTHING. So, yk, yesterday I was helping J, and he tells me after he got half way up this one climb with yellow holds, ‘i just couldn’t do it. It was really far, and really high, and hard to grab.’ So I give him some tips, he nods, he goes to take a break, I go to help another kid.
So about two hours have passed, and my group is back to climbing in the same area as before. I was js telling this one girl that she should try climbing with one color, and watching as she CRUSHED this 5.8, when I see J standing by the yellow climb he was trying before, (js for refrence if anyone here knows a thing about climbing, it was a 5.8 or a 5.9.) Curious, I go over, and see what he’s doing, cuz I assumed he was gonna try it. Instead, I see his friend doing the climb, and him helping the friend up it. But the crazy thing is; the friend was further than he had gotten! So I assumed that he had just gotten the climb while I was looking away. So I watch this going on for a minute, (cuz this other person is also trying smthn right next to him, so I can multitask,) when the friend falls, just above where J had fallen before. And J says, ‘wow, you’re so good! I couldn’t even get that far! I only got to that big yellow hold!’ And he means the hold he was holding when he fell before. So im interested by this, but some other kid needs me, so I go to them.

Thank you to anyone who read this for sticking with my pointless rant for so long

And what got me to the point that I was trying not to cry of joy was when he came and said ‘im gonna get that yellow tommorow! I mean, it’s only a little bit higher than the rainbow one, and I got that!’
In not even two days, he went from ‘I can’t do it’ to ‘im gonna do it.’
I did not expect to get so emotional about all this when I sighed up for being a CIT.
(Also I noticed in the last one my emoji diagram didn’t work… here’s what it is js in words)
