*The thought takes Thalia by surprise. It's heretical to question the will of the gods. The gods are all powerful, the ultimate authority. So why would they forbid love-something so beautiful and pure and natural, something that so many of the soldiers desperately hoped to experience during their short time on earth? If the gods really are as benevolent as the Order teaches, then does it actually make sense for them to condemn soldiers to a life devoid of all real affection and true love?*

(me) Alleer huffs, continuing to walk away. "If we don't show you your foolishness, you'll never see it."

*Thalia is silent. There's no argument this time, no snarky come-back to retort. She just sits there, defeated and confused.*

          	  "I..."

*The word comes out strangled, like something inside of her throat is holding her back. She tries again, forcing the words through gritted teeth. It's like a battle within herself, her loyalty to the Order fighting with some other feeling, something that's been stirring up inside of her.*

          	  "I can't just... question everything I know."

(me) "You already are. You always have, poor thing." Alleer pauses to look back at her for a moment. She feels the need to punctuate her point with, "I am married. Remember that."

*The words send a strange pang through Thalia's chest. The image of Alleer and Lenore together flashes through her head-the way they kissed, the look in their eyes, the way they'd embraced so fiercely-and again, her stomach twists with something like confusion. Or perhaps... something else.

The words 'I am married.’ Thalia repeats them in her head a few times, and she cannot say why exactly they seem so significant to her in that moment.*

          	  OH MY GOD??????? ??

Every few months I discover another accidental parallel in my writing. Wdym the siblings on opposite sides of war I wrote specifically to be alike also share a red bird title. A red heron and a red herring I’m smashing my head on the dashboard
