         ✧         “  it–     it makes my head spin!  ”     luke exasperated,     letting his hands rise up and fall to his sides dramatically.     the force made no sense to him—    not like it did to his sister.     he knew his mother had a very limited knowledge of it,     but he was glad that she could at least sympathize the slightest bit.     “  they sound crazy,    don't they?     they always go ;    ‘ now luke,     don't use the force but *use* the force. ’    or   ‘  son,  don't just swing your saber,    wield it.  ’     i just can't!  ”

               the woman couldn't help but giggle at her son's comment. she didn't always understand them either.  this was not a place of her expertise.  some days she missed the world of the senate ,  but most she was happy to simply be a mother.   " id say you would understand when you are older ,  but i do not either. nor do i try.  perhaps it is better that way , for now. "

         ✧         hands fidgeted at the sand beaten spacecraft toy he's had for many years.     even as he's reached his grown age,     he never seemed to want to get rid of it.     eyes looked up through his eyelashes towards his mother,     beautiful even after all this time—-     even after the brutal weather that makes almost everyone look as though they've aged more than they have should.     luke sighed,     “  why wouldn't we be safe?     i think i'm of the age to know now,     aren't i?  ”      he set the toy aside,     choosing to stand up to walk and sit next to padmé.     “ please? ”     he could handle it,    truly he could...!

                 the woman sighed. oh,  how badly she wanted to return to naboo.  the beautiful lakes . .  the grass she missed the touch of . .  the stars she would gaze at every night.  all traded for this sandy miserable place.  one where she had sent sabé years ago to help with the slave trade.  she wondered where her best friend had gone.  was she still here after all of these years?   " i want to return home too ,  but we will not be safe there.  the outer rim is the best place for us. "  she replied ,  as if she were trying to convince herself.  luke was all she had left.  she had to protect her son.

            “i keep forgetting that you were once queen. you must have carried so much weight from the material…” she shook her head. the other senator was used to gowns for the most part…but she didn’t live all of her life with gowns and robes. sometimes she’d have very little but a simple robe that was thin from where she had once been a servant. but that was in the past and it was behind her. she was now serving a much greater purpose.

                ( padmé  couldn't help but laugh at the senator's comment.  as queen she had worn a multitude of layers.  luckily rabé had innovated the garments to be more practical and comfortable.  she missed her handmaidens dearly.  the woman gently shook her head to rid of the thoughts.  this was not time to miss them.  her smile resumed quickly after.  )     it takes practice ,   although i must admit i never got used to it.  it was always a relief to take off the queen's gowns.

            the jedi master grinned as she smiled toward the other. “i don’t blame you, m’lady. while we have our duties to both the republic and our colleagues, there are still times where we need to step away and what little time we have to relax and process things….it is a beautiful day after all,” her blue eyes glanced toward the coruscant skyline. despite the city bustling with ships and speeders…coruscant had a beauty of its own.
