            despite the obvious impatience she was trying to shove down , a gentle smile sat resting upon nina's lips.  " i appreciate the sentiment darling , i really do but you don't need to inspect anything. " her words were gentle as they left her lips , she would always be appreciative of the gesture and it's kindness in spite of his gruff attitude in this moment , but she was trained in healing...whatever was wrong with her arm could disappear in a matter of seconds. " truly , you worry too much . " she chuckled , attempting to shift out of his grasp " it's very sweet. "

            " not entirely no. " the woman responded , her head resting upon his shoulder " it's nice though , don't you think ? " she questioned , she had linked one of her arms around his , giving it a gentle squeeze as she finally lifted her head to meet his gaze , a smile plastered across her face " it's comforting to me... if its really a problem i can stop. i'm perfectly capable of walking on my own . " she commented , shifting slightly to relinquish her grip on him entirely , standing up straight with a soft sigh , brushing her skirts off slightly " alright , what's the matter ? " 

is leaning against me necessary?

            nina only smiled , taking quiet note of his presence. the way he seemed to analyse her as if she were something about to explode. as if it were safer to keep her at arms length. perhaps it was. " i'm sure you think so . " she commented offhandedly , turning her attention from him to take note of the room in which she stood. " i don't mean to damage your ego , but i have run into men far more fearsome than you , mr shelby . " she mused 
            
            she laughed , to be so serious all the time seemed an exhausting concept to her. she turned back to him , stepping closer to him as if to further cement just how much her situation didn't bother her. " i said i was not afraid of you , not that i didn't fear anything . " she pointed out with a gentle shrug " but no , i'm not lying...not currently anyway. " 
            
            " to that i'll ask you a question of my own . what is thomas shelby doing , assuming a random woman , he's never met ...is stood here in this city , for him ? "

            Tommy’s expression barely changed, though there was something almost amused in his eyes at her answer. ‘Love’. The word was familiar enough, but the ease with which she’d thrown it at him suggested either an impressive lack of caution or a very particular kind of confidence. He took another slow drag from his cigarette, holding her gaze through the thin veil of smoke.
            
            “Bravery, then” he repeated the word quietly, as though testing it. His eyes briefly travelled over her, not in any obvious admiration, but in assessment. He’d spent too many years learning how to read people to ignore the little things—the way she held herself, the absence of hesitation in her voice, the fact she’d smiled when most would have looked away “that’s an interesting choice.”
            
            Tommy stepped a little closer, though he kept the distance between them deliberate. His voice lowered, losing some of its earlier amusement “most brave people I’ve met eventually discover they’re frightened of something” a pause “and the ones who aren’t…” his gaze settled firmly on hers. “They’re usually lying” the faintest smirk returned “but you don’t seem to be lying.”
            
            He tapped the ash from his cigarette, his attention never leaving her “so now you’ve made me curious” he tilted his head slightly “what’s a woman who isn’t frightened of Thomas Shelby doing standing in the middle of his world?”

            Nina seemed to have a tendency to linger when danger was lurking . Perhaps it was against her own best interest but no matter. It was rare that a person struck fear into her heart , the one man who had was long dead and he had brought upon the world nightmares she had never thought she'd see. when you served under a man like that , nothing seemed scary. especially not some supposed gangster. she was sure his reputation preceded him and he was every bit the man she had heard he was but she seemed to be only intrigued. 
            
            She smiled as his gaze settled on her from across the room , for the most part it was friendly , though there was something smug sitting in it . something challenging , like she was daring him to speak to her. " most people aren't me. " she spoke in a cheery tone , shrugging her shoulders , shifting her weight so she could turn to him. " no i haven't. you don't particularly scare me , love . though i'm sure everything i've heard is true..." she chuckled "let's go with bravery , shall we ? it's more exciting that way . "

            "wonderful ! " nina smiled softly, leaning back in her seat slightly as she brought her cup to her lips, taking a slow sip. she watched him quietly over the edge of her cup, a gentle chuckle escaping her. her words were gentle , saccharine and sweet but there was nothing soft about her gaze . it was friendly in the way that a snake was whilst it was waiting to strike. "im so glad we could have this conversation , darling. " she smiled and set her cup down, reaching across the table to take the cup she had placed in front of him , dumping its contents on the ground " i think we'll get along great . don't you ? " she asked , tilting her head

            nina blinked a few times , tilting her head slightly . she frowned to herself , glancing down at her hands clasped in front of her , picking at her nails quietly . she had always been better with people and even that was an overstatement . sure she was charming and friendly  but with abilities like the ones she had , those things only got you so far . " the horse is afraid of me ? " she repeated with a quiet chuckle " believe me , i think i've got more to worry about . "

            " i would like to wound much more than that if we're being truthful to each other in this moment . your pride alone is not enough. " nina confessed , a teacup held gently in one of her hands , the other hovering gently beneath it in support. she seemed to register his sarcasm though chose to ignore it , having far more fun prodding and poking at his buttons , observing quietly his reactions , taking mental notes of what made him twitch. " you talk so much and yet i often find that you're saying nothing at all. isn't that interesting ? "
