khalid’s prediction was a little off. instead of a twisted, dark cave of thorns, ice and dead trees it was bright — alive. birds, not native to alaska, singing in trees that also didn’t belong. it was obviously a fairytale town, with too many time periods mixing together into something much more dreamlike — made obvious by the animals dressed like people, flowers that talked and people practically playing with gravity. over it all, a castle stood proudly, flyers and banners of princess aurora’s upcoming birthday. underneath it all, thorns continued to grow in the cracks and shadows.
          
          aurora, in a dazed state slowly weaved through the canopy of trees, hand touching each one as she passed. it was a well needed break from responsibility, she was going to be queen after all. with her attention on her reflection in a flowing lake she bent down for a closer look, head only turning when she heard a twig snap.  “ you scared me ! “  a pause before splashing him with water.  “ i could’ve fallen in. “
