Just got accused of using AI to write and honestly it really embarrassed me. I posted two very long fics close together on AO3, but they were written over months in drafts before I posted them. I also intentionally try to change the atmosphere and prose style for every fic I write, so of course some of them sound different from each other.
I completely understand criticism about repetition or prose choices and I’ll always try to improve as a writer but being accused of not writing my own work genuinely hurt. Especially when writing is just something I do for fun. Being called “disingenuous” and told that my writing “didn’t come from my heart” was honestly really upsetting to read when I spend months drafting, editing and rewriting these stories. I don’t earn money from writing fanfiction, so I genuinely have no reason to post something that isn’t mine and pretend that I wrote it.
Comparing my writing from years ago to now and acting like growth or stylistic changes must mean AI feels really unfair. I ended up deleting the fic because I was so embarrassed, even though it was completely written by me.
I think I’m going to take a short break and try to rebuild my confidence a bit but please know I would never post AI written work and pretend it was mine.
