“that’s unfortunate,”  she sighed,  propping her elbows on the table,  chin held by the palm of her hand.  “no.  i have questions.  about the wolf you’re looking for.”

            blue eyes hidden behind a pair of glasses only glared ever so slightly but for the most part emil showed no interest .  “ i’m always like this so you’ll have to get used to it .  besides  ,  i doubt you’re here to chatter .  ”

her eyes narrowed,  folding her arms across the chest defensively.  “oh,  how lucky!  a detective and condescending.  starting to sound the same to me.” 

her head snapped in his direction,  eyes wide  —  filled with hope and relief.  “  a wolf  —  a giant wolf  ?  ”  lettie repeated.  she held her hand up to her torso,  as if gauging the height of something.  “  are you talking a wolf about this big maybe  ?  brown,  almost black fur  ?  ”

            “ a wolf .  i’m looking for a giant wolf  ,  that enough crazy for you yet ?  ”

“try me.  i’ve heard  / plenty /  of crazy things  —  seen even more.” 

“  it happens every night and you’re not one of those people who like sleepwalks all crazy like  ?  maybe you’re like  —  possessed or something.  a freaky lil demon takes over your body every night.  they do that sometimes.  ”

            “ the thing is—  i don’t drink .  at least not unless on occasion but i think something is wrong with me but i’ve had enough conversations with my therapist to know i’ll just seem nuts no matter what i say and that i ‘fall asleep at random’ which sounds like total bull .  ”

“ohh,  you had a little too much to drink.  you should really be careful,  especially wandering into the woods alone and at night.”
