@bailey7040 I'm 41. I'll be 42 this year. I know someone who is 67 and she still writes fan fics. The 50 shades of gray author was older when she wrote 50 Shades of Gray, which was originally a twilight fic. I know someone in their 70's who writes David Cassedy and avid Bowie fics. I used to write Hanson and Jonas Brothers. My ex-friend and I had a fight because I was originally an original author of original stories. She is/was a huge 1D fan and told me I needed to write it to 'get the reads' - I told her I was too old, but after speaking with my friend who is 67 and writes 1D fics (non sexual. Hers is more Christian based as she is a die hard Christian) I need to see what she's up to. Been a few years but she wrote a fic of Harry and this girl switching bodies. He was her bully and it was a 'walk in the others shoe' type of fic. It's been done a million times, but she added the touch of God into it and made it her own. I loved the fic, but I ended up losing my other friend because I initially refused and she turned abusive when I did, and I ended up writing Stockholm Syndrome (old fic) won some awards on the old 1D fan fic site and just been dabbling in it ever since. Most of mine are on hold until I find a direction to them. I am cuurrently working on one called Beautiful Broken Things and Harry's a Courtesan and heroin addict in it, it will be one of my more heavier fics but, to answer your question - you stop writing fan fics when it no longer interests you. You're NEVER too old to not write them. If you enjoy it, then write them. If you feel like you've outgrown it, then transfer to original writing. It's when YOU decide you're too old. In reality, no one is ever too old.
