Born into a newspaper family in rural Australia.

Switched to radio news in Australia -- first in Bendigo, then in Melbourne.

Moved to London and joined BBC World Service News in 1969. Rose to senior editorial level -- first as head of World Service Newsgathering, then News Development Editor with BBC World News television, and finally as founding Managing-Editor of BBC Arabic Television.

After the BBC, was a broadcasting lecturer and consultant then began writing screenplays and books.
