I think our parents underestimate our internet friends. They say we spend too much time on our phones, laptops, tablets, ext, along with our social media talking to people we "don't know," but think about it.
We DO know each other. The problem is not living in the same place.
Because i guarantee you you'd still be having the same conversation with that person whether they're right next to you or 10000 miles away through the internet.
