Kay so I have a question I’d like to speak into the void:
Why make a main character Y/N?
I’m not hating, some of my favorite stories on here are yn stories, but I still don’t get it?
Like, as a reader I can put myself in the place of a main character who has their own name. I can visualize the plot happening to me. I’m pretty sure that’s what we all do anyway with traditional novels, right?
If you’re going to create a character with their own backstory, their own physical features, their own personality, giving them *my* name doesn’t make them me. They’re just a person with the same name as me, I guess.
I don’t have to share a name with a character to be able to relate to them. So y/n just ends up being kind of clunky and awkward and I read it as “why–enn” anyway.
I feel like so many authors are doing themselves a disservice because I know they work so hard on their books, and a lot of people prefer not to read yn stories. I guess one could argue that I’m taking fan fiction too seriously, but plenty of fanfic writers are plenty talented and I enjoy reading their work.
If you work so hard on your characters, why not give them their own name to go along with their own identities?
