⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ HER GAZE DARKENED. she felt a rumble of his breath come unfazed by the low drift of his breaths. If pulled apart to observe, she knew by the tautness, he was equally as affected as her. though.. where it concerned her, sybil became the worst of her own spiral of thoughts. tilting her head instinctively to his touch, she pursed her lips in quiet thoughts. was there too much? but of what? she’d never once paid such close attention to the way he tensed, or rather the way his gaze frayed upon her wandering hand. again, a sift of tension settled in the pit of her belly, and she shut her eyes, opening them as if it might answer the spiral of her damning thoughts.

            ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “Matvey.”

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀sybil warned. though, whether that was for herself or him, she was uncertain. “should she not?”⠀⠀⠀it came out more out of irritation than she wanted it to sound, yet under the guise of it; awareness of holding him prickled her. she wanted to run her hands through his hair. fairly, reveal more of the madness coiling in her mind of all the things he had missed, of all the things they once used to enjoy together. only for this.. whatever seemed to burn in his gaze had turned her awareness to another level of tension. ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “what are we, matvey?”

◆ : { @lafaeys } perhaps, it was due to the years he had been at sea, fighting with the laws of nature, that the sight of her, the feel of her, had taken him aback. matvey was no easy man to fluster..or so he believed. sybil though, she was a total exception to that statement. his folded hands twitched subtly against his chest, as his brown orbs started up at her, catching every slight shift he could detect.

"what i would do.." he spoke as he caught a glimpse of a stray strand of ebony hair and his hand acted before he meant to, his fingers gently and carefully brushing it back towards her ear, perhaps slower than necessary.

"miss you terribly." the words left his lips in a deep tone, his orbs never leaving hers. her touch burned against the side of his jaw and cheek and her gaze burned him inside out. words were too little to explain what her gaze caused him, what her voice created and what the distance had carved for him and her alike. this woman was not the girl he had departed from, yet possessed everything the girl did. she had bloomed in such a beautiful way that perhaps now his hands were not worthy to cradle her, and no one else's too. possessiveness clung under his skin like wet clothes after a monsoon and he had to withdraw his hand from her cheek after giving her nose a gentle squeeze with a small smile.

"the little kadu has grown i see" he spoke teasingly, masking the brewing of his flesh and bone with the suffocating of his affection.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ gaunt of her cheeks were pulled inward by a breath. stuttering lashes, caught by the frill of his teasing, made her eyes wrinkle. she was watching him. carefully, however, as if he was a different man under this chasm of light. but it drew something else.. from the shambles of her soul, a spirit of sorts; perhaps. or maybe, her mind was deluded. sybil inhaled softly, rubbing the back of her neck. she shook her head at once, then a smile curved her lips.

            ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ ⠀ “maybe.”

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ she answered. for a moment, her gaze lingered on his face. a drag of it drunken on the chiselled sharpness of his jaw. without thinking, she touched his face. meshed softness glided against the pad of her fingertips as she roved her touch to memorize the prickliness of his jaw.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ “what would you do without me? mhm?”

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ (i. ⠀⠀) ⠀ there was much she could have said then. the words, a tide of soft poise ready to spill past her lips. but at one daft of an answer coming from his own, it halts her thoughts immediately. an itch settled then, there with a covey of niche. sybil loosened her hold, drawing her hand back from his forearm. she took a step back, then another. perhaps, this was sufficient, for she wished him nothing but a quiet solace. and yet; this left only a bitter taste upon her tongue. no matter how much he wanted to? an excursion of expression lilts, causing a furrow in her brows.

⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ( sometimes.⠀⠀) ⠀ sybil answered. the distance he closed before her steps had eased back, now only with a measure of more distance between them due to her stepping back; bothered her. ⠀⠀⠀ ( do you regret it?⠀⠀)

her nails dug into his skin in sharpness and yet • @lafaeys •
her eyes remained the thing that cut him deeper and carved him sharper than anything else. he welcomed the throbbing of his wrist, it was less than he deserved for not being near her. her words echoed in his mind, lingering guilt and regret suffocating him. if only..

"the sea is not for the weak, sybil. yet, it is my duty, one I can't deny.." he spoke, his tongue coming to a pause as her spared a glance to his wrist and then to her eyes, letting his feet step just a bit closer to her. perhaps there was no greater law of attraction than that of a man with deep thirst for something just outside of his reach.
" no matter how much I [want] to." he spoke the words clear enough for her ears as her let his hand raise her chin just a bit higher before letting go of it entirely, the back of his fingers traveling to her opposite cheek to wipe it clean just like he had done with the other.

"the nightmares..are they persistent?" he asked with the softness that still existed within him in between his lungs since back then. perhaps it was too much to ask, yet he took the chance for worry was all he felt all these years, along with the inevitable tearing of his heart. and now, her eyes spoke of tiredness, of exhaustion other than that of flesh and muscle and that made his worry once again crawl from the pit of his stomach, his jaw set tight as he thought of the time apart he had been inflicted upon. fate could be quite a cruel thing.

⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⋆ ⠀he was neither a friend nor a lover. a creature, however, caught somewhere in the myriad of her pain and anguish. the sapphire of her gaze traversed with a quickness she never knew she possessed. starkly, she observed him. the curve of his shoulders to the breadth of his chest, and trickling past to his waist, then slowly, as if she were observing a wounded cat. sybil’s gaze lowered to his legs. all of /him/ felt vast, larger than life. the face and the voice of the same man she had befriended since childhood, yet; he felt a stranger, a stagnant poise settling over him. he was /different,/ his voice had deepened, his cheeks had sharpened, and his eyes.. they were haunted. sybil turned her face away from his sharp eyes. the cool press of his fingers on her chin made her flatten her lips, brows creasing into a narrow look; until she dragged her gaze back to him. ⋆

⠀⠀ ⠀is that all you have to say? ⠀ ⋆ the words cleaved out in a bitter breath of sound. without much vigor. she caught his wrist, unintentionally digging the sharp of her nails into the soft, fleshy flesh of it. she could barely wrap her fingers around it. ⋆
