I think that eventually quite a few of the avid readers who devour books on a regular basis and develop particular tastes in plots, writing styles, heroes, and villains reach a point where many books become disappointing. You can't find your next fix. You have a small collection of books that you really, really enjoyed. And then a few tiers of "these were okay" books. But it's harder all of a sudden to find what you want. You have to scour the internet, looking through reviews and recommendations, relying on fanfics. It becomes harder to try new authors and to take risks on books that may take a few hours to determine whether they're any good.

So, what do those avid readers do? Well, I think some of them just write what they wish they were reading. I am one of those people.

Everyone has different ideals. Some like black and white. I like grey. I like villains that have good reasons for their actions. I like heroes who you may not want to meet in a dark alley. Or better yet, stories that don't have heroes or villains, just different ways of looking at a situation.
