After a lot of consideration, I’ve decided to withdraw from the awards.
          
          This hasn’t been an easy decision. While the issue regarding my eligibility was eventually clarified privately, the way it was handled publicly caused real harm. Being implicitly singled out in discussions of “cheating,” without prior communication or transparency, was deeply distressing and honestly humiliating.
          
          Seeing speculation unfold in comments (even when my name wasn’t directly mentioned) has been incredibly painful. I’ve never felt so insulted or disrespected in a community I participated in in good faith. I cannot with all the possible willpower brush the emotional impact aside.
          
          Fairness isn’t only about outcomes or rules; it’s also about process, communication, and the responsibility organisers have toward participants. When those fail, especially in ways that isolate one person, I don’t feel comfortable continuing.
          
          I’m choosing to step away for my own well-being. I wish the remaining contestants the best, but I won’t be engaging further.
          
          Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who supported me—it genuinely meant a lot. I love writing (and I probably always will), and my only goal was to share that passion through my work. I’m grateful that some of you connected with it and appreciated it.
          
          As of today, I’ll be going on hiatus for an undetermined amount of time. I truly need it.

A clarification, since this has escalated unnecessarily.
          
          I did not create or use fake accounts to vote for myself in the '25 Wattpad Awards. Someone close to me in real life voted independently from their own account. I do not control that account, and it is not an “alt.” My only alt is the one mentioned on my account and that’s it. I am truly not that jobless to go around creating an account to not only boost my own votes but also comment on my own stories.
          
          I addressed this directly with the organiser, and the matter has been resolved.
          
          I’m quite disappointed that concerns weren’t brought to me first, but I’m glad it’s been cleared up. What I will say however, is that involving or scrutinising someone else’s account is inappropriate, especially when that person is a minor. My family/friends should not be dragged into it.
          
          Next time you suspect me of wrongdoing, at least come to me first before spreading rumours or whatsoever. I’ve been nothing but straightforward on this app and this won’t change today.

A brief note, because this comes up every year and it's lowkey tiring: Black History Month is not a holiday, and it isn't something to be "wished" in the celebratory sense.
          
          Its primary purpose is to address the historical marginalisation and erasure of Black histories by creating a designated period for education, recognition, and engagement with Black contributions, struggles, and resistance (past and present).
          
          If you genuinely want to acknowledge Black History Month in a meaningful way (particularly on a platform like Wattpad), there are more substantive options than surface-level posts:
          
          - Read and support Black authors
          - Engage with Black history beyond secondary-school requirements (yes, this includes reading something OTHER than To Kill a Mockingbird)
          - Share essays, resources, or historical figures worth learning about (despite being important, other Black figures deserve the same recognition as MLK and Malcom X)
          - Highlight writers on this app who write Black characters with CARE and INTENTION
          - Reflect on representation and narrative choices in your OWN work
          
          And sure, celebrating Black culture and joy has its place, but without context or engagement, acknowledgements risk becoming performative instead of being constructive.
          
          So, this month is an opportunity for awareness and responsibility—not aesthetics.
