I grew up treating everyone the same, regardless of colour. My mom never taught me to be rude to someone because of their colour and honestly I never thought about race as a child. They were just people to me. To this day, I have never and will never treat someone based on their race.
Now at 16 years old, I am aware of the issues in society and how people of colour are treated. It breaks my heart to know others treat people of colour so poorly. Why? I ask myself that so often. Just because someone is a different colour doesn't mean they deserve to be treated horribly. What is so wrong with the governments that still allow people in uniform to continue killing POC?
What is so wrong with the governments that makes them think they can shoot rubber bullets and mace people who are peaceful protesting the horrible acts of their officers?
Nobody deserves the treatment POC receive. It breaks my heart to know people are treated like that. Enough is enough. They deserve to know they won't be attack by someone if they go on a walk because of their colour. They should be able to walk freely.
As a white person, I will use my privilege to speak up. I will not remain silent. I hear you, I see you, I mourn with you, and most importantly, I stand with you. I will fight with you. I will protect you.
You don't deserve the mistreatment, the worry of possibly getting a gun put to your head. You are valued and don't deserve that.
The world and society are always changing, and I hope that it's currently changing for the better, to provide you with the safety and not violence.
Please stay safe, keep yourself protected in these times. I love you all and know that I stand with you.
