To all of the scared people out there, to all the LGBTQ+ members, to all the people of colour, the disabled, the minority, I can’t offer you a physical solace and for that I am truly sorry. I can only offer my love and comforting words to help you through this.
I can only really imagine your fear. I am bisexual, biracial, and Canadian so maybe I don’t have a right to speak on this and talk about this fear that I am not experiencing firsthand, but I am here for you, I hope for you, I dream for you when you are too scared to.
I am scared, not for myself, but for you. I want you all safe and loved because that is what you deserve.
I know life doesn’t stop just because that man is president, but I want you to know that it is okay to take some time to figure things you, to make sure you are okay. It is okay to go back “into the closet” to protect yourself, or put your hijab away. It is okay for you to protect yourself in any way you know how. The LGBTQ+ community, the God you believe in, and I will understand.
To those who are neither gay nor a person of colour, etc, remember to be kind. To be strong and brave for those who cannot be for themselves because fear is gripping them so tightly they can barely function. Be their safe haven whether it be in housing, words, or someone to lean on. Try to understand their fear, and love them. That is the most important thing. Be kind, be strong, be patient, be present.
