I'm the drummer for a band called Rivals. The band--a loud, gritty mix of rock and punk and metal--has been together 13 years. We're all the best of friends and it makes writing and performing music so much more fun. Rivals has a reputation for breathless, high-energy live shows. We've released six records, gone on multiple tours, played hundreds of shows, and shared the stage with bona fide rock stars. If anyone is interested, you can find us at facebook.com/rivalsmusic.

Why am I here? I'm on a mission to share my band's experiences (the good, the bad and the ugly) and my advice with younger musicians who are just starting their journey into live performances. I've also forgotten how much I enjoyed writing, for the simple pleasure of just writing. I forgot that I used to write stories in high school and college and share them with my friends. I remember freaking out in my college English course when my professor asked me to read one of my stories in front of the class. I didn't think it was that good, but they all seemed to really enjoy it.

I graduated with a Journalism degree and a minor in English. It was probably sometime during college where my writing shifted from pleasure to necessity, as I was taught how to write with a "business" voice. I want to indulge in the simple pleasure of writing for writing's sake once again. Know what I mean?

I'd love to receive any type of feedback, and happy to return the favor.
