          This chapter is a DOOZY! I poured everything I had (and then some) into it, and I hope you enjoy seeing our four main characters interact together (finally!) as much as I loved writing their scenes. 
          
          As mentioned before, this is the penultimate chapter of Book 1. There will be one final chapter, hopefully published before the end of the month. But don't worry - there's so much more in store in Book 2!

Author Update: 
          
          Hey guys! I am checking in with a status update on Chapter 45. 
          
          I made a lot of progress writing today and feel pretty good about how it is coming together. Most of the chapter is written now, though I need to add in a few more things. Then, I'll need a little time to edit it.  
          
          These next couple of weeks are going to be busy for me, so I am really hoping to get this penultimate chapter published in the next 1-3 days. Then, I'll probably publish the last chapter on or around the new year. 
          
          Reminder: Book 1 is only the beginning! There are so many more twists and turns ahead for our characters in Book 2 and beyond. Can't wait!!

          SO. EXCITED. 
          
          As I've mentioned before, these final chapters of Book 1 are longer. They are also taking me a lot longer to write, not just because of the word count, but tracking down all of the loose ends and double-checking for continuity errors. So, I really appreciate your patience and sticking with me while it is sometimes 10 days or so between chapters. 
          
          But I am having SO much fun bringing all of the pieces together (and finally bringing our characters back together). I hope you are enjoying it, too. 
          
          I have not started on Chapter 45 yet, so I'll update soon on how it is coming along and when I expect it will be published. I am still expecting Chapter 45 and 46 to be the last two chapters... but I could possibly split those two into three. Regardless, this is the final stretch for Book 1! The best is yet to come in Book 2!!

Author Update: 
          
          I am checking in with an update on Chapter 44!
          
          It is a LONG one, but I think it's going well. It's an Erik POV and there's a lot of ground to cover in this chapter. I believe it will be finished in the next day or two. No later than Sunday 12/7, but hopefully sooner.

          I don't want to spoil anything, but... some of the things I know you all have been waiting for are finally happening!!!! 
          
          You may remember that I said a few weeks ago that I thought we were probably down to the final few chapters (finishing Book 1 around Chapter 44 or 45 unless I decided to split a few of the chapters). I did end up splitting a couple of the chapters, so I know for sure there are going to be at least three more chapters, possibly four. That means the current last chapter will be Chapter 46 or 47. I don't see that changing much at this point in the story. 
          
          Other notes... this chapter was called "Silver" in my notes for a long time. Then, briefly, "Control" in reference to a cover of Halsey's "Control" I was listening to while writing. I kept going back-and-forth, but I finally went with "After" because the last chapter was called "It Is Finished" (the finality from Troy's POV), but this chapter was all about a major turning point for Beth. A clear break from who she was "before" and stepping into what comes next.

          I am checking in since it has been a minute since Chapter 42 was posted. I wanted to let you know that Chapter 43 is basically finished, and I will be editing it this weekend. I expect to share it with you all today or tomorrow (Saturday or Sunday). 
          
          I am having so much fun writing these last few chapters, and I am getting SO excited for Book 2 honestly. As always, I really appreciate you all reading and supporting the story. Thank you!! :)

          I was running a bit ahead of schedule this week, so here is Chapter 42 early!! Can't wait to hear your thoughts. 
          
          I will be traveling this weekend, so I don't expect the next Chapter until the end of next week at the earliest. It's going to be an important chapter (but aren't they all?), so I don't want to rush it.

          I think we may be down to the final five chapters of Book 1 now, unless I decide to split one or two of them into multiple POVs. I honestly am SO excited for Book 2 and my mind is already racing ahead outlining the plot points. 
          
          I really appreciate all of you that have stuck with me this far. I can't believe we're somehow on Chapter 40! I anticipate these final chapters will take slightly longer to make sure I get them right, but I thankfully have some good momentum right now (so not too long!).
