Callie Adams Foster was written to be complicated, she was written to be messy & self sabotaging. She was never written or meant to be a "simple" character with a "simple" story NONE of the adopted kids on fosters had a "simple" upbringing that's the whole point of the show that they found the "simple" life and the stability AFTER Stef and Lena adopted them
