I'm an aspiring YA writer!! I fell in love with ancient Greek mythology, ancient Egyptian mythology, and the whole sha-bang of anything mystical and romantic as a teen. It was my escape from the generic city life here in NYC. 
My infatuation basically started when I read Twilight in 7th grade... yea it literally "sucked" me in. Ha!
