@ouproie: ⠀“the serpent”? [the ceramic teacup burns in yuèhuā's hands. the steam rises to warm his face, eyebrow raised innocently at the question.] who’s that? you’ll have to be specific, [a small smile forms on his lips, setting the small teacup on the counter. (he isn’t a very good liar..) however, the thought of orochi being in danger causes him to falter.] i get many customers, but not a snake. or “the serpent”. this person seems important to you, though.. ˃̵ᴗ˂̵ maybe contact the police? i’m sure they’ll be of help. maybe.

after all of this is over and we kill asaki, how about we run away together—just you and me— to the countryside where no one can find us? you can become a florist like you’ve always wanted to and i’ll set up shop next door and i’ll make you all the pretty pots and vases you could ever ask for .. no one to tell us what to do or where to go .. wouldn’t that be nice, yuè? just the two of us living happily for the rest of our days.

胸がはち切れそうで⋆ ̄ @kafkajoke (...)﹢ ͟،͟،͟ a letter to my ██, ͟ ͟ ͟ ✧ i know. we don’t deserve it. [the playful lilt that had laced the serpent’s voice moments before disappears as quickly as it had arrived. it’s instead swiftly replaced with a quiet murmur filled with a deep sorrow. yuèhuā’s words are a sobering reminder of their reality— dragging orochi back into the present moment the same way the men working for asaki had stolen orochi’s nearly-drowned body out of the icy water near ██ and to the al-kamar orphanage that night all those years ago as a child; cruelly, without forgiveness nor kindness with each action. the past was something that orochi could see but not touch, like the alternate reality that lingers in the back of her mind. she’d never admit it, but more than once has orochi found herself yearning for a life of peace.] but it’s fun to pretend that we can be forgiven for our actions, sometimes. to pretend that we aren’t murderers. but i know it’s not smart to dwell on the things we can’t have for too long. [orochi’s gaze softens as their eyes meet and she looks in awe. even exhausted and crestfallen, she thinks that yuèhuā is beautiful. she catches glimpses of uzuki in his eyes and it hits her like a blade to the chest. orochi wishes so badly that his life wasn’t riddled with misfortune the way it was, that the world was kinder to his soul. she takes in yuèhuā’s smile, but does not return it herself. ever so slightly, her head leans forward, tilting.] (...) you always cared about uzuki and the rest of the orphans, no matter what. (i’ve always liked that about you.) you’re not as bad of a brother as you think you are, you know. you’re better than asaki, at least, and that means something. —and when was the last time you’ve gotten actual rest? ..you look tired. it’s not healthy.

@everyletterisent⠀⠀ us.. run away? [the words seem so foreign, outlandish. no, the whole concept of itself—living happily, without killing—could there be a life like that for them? did they even deserved it, despite everything they had done? it seemed so childish, yuèhuā thought. how silly indeed. even if it’s something that, at one point, he thought of.] i doubt we deserve it, [he speaks in a soft cadence, just above a whisper. yuèhuā’s head finally lifts to meet orochi’s gaze, the light highlighting his features: pale, melancholic, and exhausted with the dark circles under his eyes. for a moment, he almost looked just like kei.. eyes, as blue as the ocean waters off of the izu peninsula that glitter from the sun’s reflection. mouth lifts up into a smile, though it does not reach one’s eyes.] even so.. [a pause. there’s so much to say, and yet so little all at once.] that’s only a distant dream. something to fantasize about. and i’d rather not make kei sad (again) for leaving him all alone. i’d be a terrible big brother (though that hasn’t changed).
