WAIT MAYBE one of those things that's only theirs is that they never say "bye" "goodbye" "see ya" or anything else like that to each other

1- girl has a nickname that she came up for herself at the residential facility that no one else calls her other than her fellow residents (might've taken that idea from her parents' "stage" names

2- girl and boy make this promise to each other, or something that helps them identify the other when they're sneaking around or later in their "happy and safe" adoptive families

Hey hey hey

So I'm writing a book about these kids who get put into the foster care system who only eventually find homes in one another before they're all adopted into different families, but later they seem to find their way back to one another while they think everything has changed

Initially about this girl who's biological parents run a meth lab so she's sent to foster care from CPS who later gets adopted into an abusive household which she can't seem to get out of no matter how hard she tries

Then she has a love interest that she meets in the residential facility who's around her age and working through his own trauma etc etc

LOTS of obstacles along the way definitely, but I'd like some ideas from y'all. I'll post some more ideas that I have as well
