Well the only main tip I could give you that I mainly use is to read books that are similar to ones you would like to read, for instance, I read soul eater books to really know what other people like. I also act out my books. I know it sounds weird but I have a weird form of scitzofrenia ( if that's is how it's spelled ) where I imagine people I've seen in real life a really here with me so I act out scenes with them. Another tip I have is, set a goal for how long you want it to be, the word count or anything like that. If you want to ever create suspense or a cliff hanger, really amp up your story and make it exciting, then, at the very moment something gets good, cut it off and leave it for the next chapter.
