My Dear Fellow Artists,
I, for the first time, since joining this heart filled with like-minded creatives, have a lyrical impulse to empty myself of this uncouth guise that I have illy gotten accustomed to.
Quite frankly, this 'about' space is one's original and true connection with those who see fit to journey into your works and in opportune times, a start of boundless conversations. The lack of one has therefore been of great distress to me.
It has not however, been an overnight occurrence, but has been brewing for well over three years. It's presence therefore, has to be credited to one, my mom, who out of the kindness of her heart, bought me a book that is until now, my front runner. Two, the bookshop, which against all odds still stacks shelves upon shelves of tangible knowledge. And three, the author of this inspiring book, the late Chinua Achebe(may his soul rest in peace). The first book -I am ashamed to say- by his pen that I have ever indulged in but definitely not the last.
AFRICA'S TARNISHED NAME, the 64-page essay filled creation has not only grasped my attention, but also granted me with a new appreciation for disquisitions and the scrutiny they command.
I cannot and will not dare say that my own crafted essays and stories will be as thrilling as the legend's. But I can pledge, that with this unfolding interest, they will be products of blood and sweat and at the very least, complete.
Sincerely,
Kemuma Nyamweya, 2019.
