I write historical fiction, short fiction, and short commentary on current events. From time to time I might paste in an op-ed, excerpt from a translation, or other work. The longer fictional work I'm pinning-up here is "The Venetian Company" (I might change the title), a novel of Renaissance Italy. I'll post some chapters and arrange them in the proper order. There may be some holes in the story as I work on/edit particular chapters, but I ask for your patience. Background/argument: Many scholars believe that Greek exiles fleeing to Italy played a major role in kicking off the Renaissance. These exiles taught the classics at schools and universities in the Italian city-states, served as loyal soldiers, and participated in trade. The idea for this work came to me after living and working for some years in some of the locales described in the story.
