Every story begins with a simple word, a simple sentence. A simple thought. Sometimes it can be rather difficult to find that perfect beginning. The beginning of a story is in many ways the most important. If you're one of those readers who picks up a random book, reads the first sentence, then decides from there whether your choice is worth pursuing or not, then you know how important it is to make sure its a good one. Well for some people, its easy to spit out words like a machine- an ever constant machine that effortlessly pulls words together in the most beautiful, Shakespearian sentence you've ever heard. For others, its not quite as simple or easy. In fact it can be quite hard, I'd even go as far as to say to the point of down right frustrating.
Well, thats me.
I've been trying to finish a book, a story, a poem, anything for as long as i can remember. Sure, I've finished school reports, or stories in English class, but we all know that doesn't count. Not when writing is what you want to do in life, and as we all know- life is only so long before we kick the bucket. And you're wasting life away with your mind in a hole, desperately trying to crawl out.
The best thing to remember is- Write what you know.
Best advice I've ever heard, except when you want to write an epic love story and you've never been in love. Or you want to write about pirates and sword fights and traveling the world and you've never set foot out of your own front porch. Yes, very good advice.
But lets remember, watt-padders, that a writer is not characterized by how much they write, or even how good it is. Writers are characterized by how much they love their practice, and how much work they're willing to put in it.
Thank you Wattpad for giving us writers and readers alike a place to enjoy what we all love- the written word. :)
Lots of Love!
