My darlings,
Iāve been struggling with my mental health for a couple of years, starting around the time when my father unexpectedly passed away. Those of you who have been my readers for a while might remember when I had (what at the time they thought was) carpal tunnel and issues with my back. Recently Iāve also been having some sort of unexplained peripheral nerve pain all over my body. The combination of all these symptoms - plus the state the world is in, the rise of the AI nightmare, and work stress - finally broke me completely past Winter.
Last month I decided to seek medical help. Not to bore you with descriptions of inadequacies of the Canadian health system, they of course blamed it on the classic gender+age combo and dismissed my concerns for as long as they could. In the end, theyāve excluded all the usual suspects (diabetes, B12 deficiency, etc.) and finally started listening. And with my maternal grandmother and my mother having Parkinsonās (which my symptoms fit perfectly), my chances of it being something else are pretty low. Thereās no diagnostic tool for Parkinsonās, so itās the case of āif it gets super bad, weāll drug you and see if it gets better.ā As of right now Iām told to āexercise moreā (I bike to work and back every day) and āeat betterā (I eat a healthy diet of everything in moderation). Iāve got a feeling that they just needed to say something so they fell back on these platitudes.
So, thatās me, reporting from the bottom of the Pit of Despair (hereās a Princess Bride reference for you to lighten the mood). I have to say that I am still inspired and write in my head, and even draw and paint (I just donāt want to post anything with all the AI blight going through social media). And I will be back, Iām sure. The net just doesnāt feel safe and welcoming these days. I miss the early days of writing my Holyoakes.
I hope youāre all doing well (or at least better than me)!
See you soon⦠hopefully.
Cheers!
K. xx

@kkolmakov I'm very sorry to hear about your health struggles but I hope you get better soon! It is really good to hear that despite everything you're holding on and doing what's best for you :) And most importantly - that you are still in touch with your writing. Please take as much time as you need. Your health is most important. And we, your readers, are not going anywhere

Iām so sorry the world is in the state it is and you have to deal with this particularly shitty health situation on top. Sending you lots of love. There are still parts of the internet, that arenāt evil. But I get that as a whole, it feels so harsh. Your writing is the exact opposite and as I have a feeling, thatās not just the case for us readers but four you a well, I really hope youāll get back to it. As of now an always: lots of love ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø

@kkolmakov sending you warm thoughts and hope you get to decipher what works best for you! It looks like you are in the right path prioritizing your health already (it is hard, sometimes, to remember how important it is to set those limits for ourselves!) Lots of hugs!!
