Hey guys!
So... I think I'm gonna change my plans for my post-apocalyptic fanfic Last Melody on Earth.
Lately, I've been feeling that the story doesn't make much sense anymore for a 21st-century nuclear war setting. Originally, I focused on human decisions leading to the apocalypse — but after introducing Koharu Seto (one of the post-nuclear survivors) and mentioning AM-like and Skynet-like rogue AIs, I realized the story's logic needs a serious overhaul.
Having places like Hong Kong and other major cities in the Southern Hemisphere act as "safe havens" also started to feel unrealistic — it made the world seem too much like a pre-war fantasy. The whole thing was starting to feel like a mix of 1983 doomsday lore and Cold War geopolitics, which doesn't fit a digital-era apocalypse.
So, I'm planning to rewrite the story to make Rogue AIs — similar to AM and Skynet — partly responsible for triggering the nuclear war, not just rogue human actors. That way, the Last Melody on Earth world will involve a full-blown AI takeover alongside the nuclear apocalypse.
This update also opens up some awesome crossover potential — not just with other anime, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Fallout, and Metro, but also I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream and Terminator! . Plus, it will gives Karina Arima — the daughter of Eli Ayase and Kousei Arima — a stronger role as the fanfic's equivalent of John Connor.
What do you guys think?
Should I reboot the story completely or just rewrite some chapters to fit the Rogue AI takeover concept?
