⠀⠀⠀    ⠀⠀ ⋆ ⠀⠀⠀ the runic songs of the birds filled the emerald forest with a mellow, ancient melody. the sound carried through the trees, untouched by time, mingling with the whisper of leaves and the distant flow of the river. sverrir had first believed the strange creature before him to be some spirit of the waters, a mortal lost among the hidden realms or perhaps something sent from the old world beyond his understanding. yet weeks had passed since he discovered her trail, and still she remained. he could not shake her presence, nor could he simply leave her to wander the highlands alone.        he understood nothing of her tongue, nor the meaning behind the gestures she offered him. every word she spoke was foreign, every expression a mystery. still, patience had brought them further than hostility ever could. /skoll,/ ever the clever beast and companion, had taken to studying her speech and crafting a way to bridge the gap between them, attempting to weave her strange language into the old gaelic sverrir knew by heart. and yet, despite all his efforts, she continued to surprise him.       this time, he found her perched high upon the branches of an ancient tree, one touched by old magic. the bark glowed faintly with the remnants of enchantments older than his clan, and the very roots seemed to breathe beneath the soil. sverrir stopped below, his expression hardening as he looked upward.
