hot take but I lowk think El and Mikes story ended exactly like it was supposed to.
From the beginning of the show el had been haunted all her laugh , she should’ve died in the first season but she didn’t. The writers gave her time to experience friendship , family, and love which were things she yearned for so it’s not shocker that when it came down to it she sacrificed herself for the people that meant the world to her. It sucks but the plot makes sense, she was living off of borrowed time.
As for Mike ever since he met El his world and future only revolved around her. He had no outside plans for his future other than El. So ofc he didn’t get his happy ending bc in his head all his endings involved being with el no matter what. It’s kinda like Barbie when they say Ken only has a good day if Barbie is having a good day. Ken is Mike and Barbie is El.
