UPDATE: FERAL SCREAMING
hi lia! i came from reddit/a03 and made an account just to read crash and burn. im so fckin excited
about my last message, i want to add something:
A.I. has been regarded as a useful tool for those who struggle with mental illness, neurodivergent people, and people who are writing in a language not native to them. it makes writing logical sentences easier, but also makes writing a seamless process when you struggle with mental fog. English is my first language, and my mental illness is what makes writing come so easily to me. i couldn’t imagine being in a boat that is entirely polar to the life i lead now. i want to be compassionate and understanding to those who genuinely feel like they cannot engage in this art form without using A.I.
before A.I, the writing space was definitely a lot more exclusive to those who “had it” in terms of natural talent. others had to pour extensive hours into developing their craft. from what i’ve heard, the “developing-craft” part of writing is very difficult for non-native English speakers. some readers are catty/rude and will make fun of your writing if it doesn’t meet their standards. there are writers who ive seen be ridiculed when they are genuinely trying their best to succeed at their craft. this exclusionary nature of writing makes A.I. all that more appealing — even as it chips away at individualism and personal artistic flairs.
i want to destigmatize disclosing your art as A.I-generated. people will use A.I regardless of how others may feel about it. but, i think it’s really wrong to trick your readers into believing your prose was written by you if it…wasn’t. there are valid reasons why someone would use ChatGPT or Google Gemini to help out with writing — so just be honest about it!
@Jungkooks_Stolen_Pan i'll only share one as this account is the most agregious and i am SO certain they use A.I. that i don't really care if i get backlash for saying this. @/RoadToMiroh 22 stories and a MAJORITY of them are over 100,000 words. i believe she has one or two stories she published last year, but all the others were published in 2025. she published the oldest one in DECEMBER 2024, so it has not even been a full year, yet somehow she has completed numerous books in short spantimes with them all at least being 50k words (but as i said before, an overwhelming majority are 100k+). their wattpad bio is also more likely than not, A.I generated. i don't want to go around accusing people of using A.I if i am not almost 100% certain. with this author, i am so certain that i'm willing for her to somehow see this and react poorly. again, people clearly love her stories, so i'm not saying that she is not deserving of her notoriety. her ability to plot and create worlds to prompt into A.I is excellent. however, i think it's odd to not disclose A.I usage when it's in every facet of your account...
@lialure Can you share the accounts that you think use AI for writing so that I can avoid them myself? (If you don't want to post them publicly, you can DM them to me)
@lialure ikk :)) I've been studying English from the time I was a kid bc my country had made it a mandatory language to learn but yeah I'm trying to improve my grammar
wattpad is not a safe space for writers anymore.
i'm lucky to have built a platform before the A.I. boom in every facet of our lives. but to be a writer TODAY, trying to build an honest platform? i imagine it's a nightmare.
you see, wattpad's foundation is inherently algorithmic. before A.I., there was the complaint of poorly written fiction where people put lesser effort into each chapter to chase after the algorithm. i don't blame authors for this. wattpad is also a platform where ANYONE can write, whether if be their first time or if they've been writing for years. whether they've been published or exclusively write fanfiction for their favorite sources of entertainment.
wattpad REWARDS you if you are able to upload quickly. this is why, before A.I, the more popular fanfictions had 50+ chapters with small word counts. how does this tie into A.I.? well, A.I. speeds up the "writing" process tenfold. not only can you "write" faster, but you can "write" better, faster. it would be naive to ignore how appealing that would be to writers who want to build a readerbase. it is not always easy or fun writing into a void, wondering if /anyone/ will give your story a chance.
a good handful of the stories dominating certain popular tags are A.I-written. asking "writers" to abandon ChatGPT for a genuine writing process that is a LOT less fun is a big ask. asking readers to boycott A.I-written fiction when most are naive to what A.I writing even looks like is an unrealistic ask.
MY ASK would be for A.I-assisted writers to disclose that they /are/ using A.I, you know? they don't, because they know that they would lose a percentage of their readerbase who does not feel comfortable reading A.I "slop". but, because they keep using it, there's no way that these "writers" can argue that using A.I is wrong. so, if there's nothing wrong with A.I.-assistance by their moral codes, they should be disclosing that with their readers.
@lialure wait you can use AI in WATTPAD??? I tried to copy paste an old story from like two years ago before I had WATTPAD on docs to my story before but it didn't work .... I didn't even know you could copy paste on wattpad, I THOUGHT IT WASN'T ALLOWED SO I LITERALLY COPIED AN OLD STORY WORK BY WORK ON KEYBOARD T0T :)
@lialure This is so true. I also have no problem with people using A.I, but they need to give credit where credit is due, and passing off something ChatGPT wrote as their own work is plagiarism.
I so so so so agree with this. AI has sucked the soul out of writing. I've read countless fanfictions and recently, One of them was exposed to being written by AI. It's ridiculous how a person stoops so low that they need Artificial intelligence to write stories and ffs. The fact that one can't even distinguish between AI writing and traditional writing is insane. I hate the use of AI in anything, especially in things as artistic and creative like writing. Thank you so so much Liaa for talking about a serious topic
said "hiatus is over" then i broke my arm lol. won't be making anything new for a while since i can only type with one hand. longtime readers, i'll bring back some oldies to tie you over for the next few months T-T
updates, going forward, will slow down a bit! for crash and burn and h2bh, as they are rewrites, i mainly just have to edit those, so i can still put out some updates. for the returning oldies, don't expect updates for a WHILE!
i just don't want to be ashamed of my old writing or my old work anymore. it wasn't as good, but it wasn't bad. it was a transitionary period in my writing journey where i was learning new vocabulary and developing new skills. nothing wrong with that!
allure, i haven't forgotten you guys! things have already been slow... i feel terrible delaying things further. i'm obviously reading, just not in the optimal space to be writing long reviews
Lia hey it’s Alex! I’ve changed my username from @delulu_alex to @alexmasonfics Sorry for the inconvenience <3
