I recently read a very triggering book. I say read, but I actually only made it through the first two chapters out of 53. In the first chapter, within the first few paragraphs even, the author describes the main character nearly getting raped by a werewolf in his wolf form. The author goes into EXTREME detail on the situation. Then, in the next chapter the person who saved him from getting raped literally protects the rapist, victim blames, sexually harasses the main character and tells him to go talk to the person who tried to rape him. A trigger warning was never given. There was no mention of ANY of these things in the description or the tags. These subjects are very sensitive and can be very triggering to people like me who have dealt with it before and even for those who have not. That book was so hard for me to read. It took me nearly an two hours to read those two chapters... it was only around 1200 words in total. I cried an freaked out the entire time. I was so pissed off at the person who "saved" him, especially because it hit really close to home with my own experience. It's terrifying for me to read and even worse when I see how people are treating him. I thought maybe if I just continue reading it'll get better maybe the other people's reactions won't be bad, maybe the rapist will be held accountable, maybe the rape scene was the only triggering scene. None of that happened, which is why I'm writing this. It hurts me to read, all I ask is that you show a little empathy. If you're an author who writes about these things please just give a trigger warning. It takes five seconds and by doing so you can save a life.
