I know that I have shared my political beliefs on this platform in the past, and I will do it again today.
I’d like to start off by recognizing that today marks 24 years since the attack on the twin towers in New York City. Three years ago I had the opportunity to visit the memorial. Today I think about those stories from loved ones and survivors. My heart goes out to those people as I know that even two decades later, it does not get easier.
Next, yesterday there were two more acts of gun violence in this country. I’d like to say that I did not agree with anything Charlie Kirk said, but violence is never the answer. My heart goes out to his family. My heart also goes out to all of those students and community members, as those moments will never leave their minds.
With that, we have had two school shoutings in two weeks. I mourn for all those affected in Minnesota and Colorado. No parent, teacher, staff member, or student should have the fear that today may be their last.
As I woke up today, I realized the divide that our country is currently facing. I have seen horrible remarks from both parties yesterday and today. We need to bring empathy back. 24 years ago, our country was united. We need to be united now and stand against gun violence in our country. It needs to end.
This is not red vs blue. It is humanity vs insanity.
I love you all.
