There will come a time when all of us are dead. All of us. There will come a time when there are no human beings remaining to remember that anyone ever existed or that our species ever did anything. There will be no one left to remember Aristotle or Cleopatra, let alone you. Everything that we did and built and wrote and thought and discovered will be forgotten and all of this will have been for naught. Maybe that time is coming soon and maybe it is millions of years away, but even if we survive the collapse of our sun, we will not survive forever. There was a time before organisms experienced consciousness and they will be time after. And if the inevitability of human oblivion worries you, I encourage you to ignore it
. God knows that's what everyone else does.
~Hazel Grace Lancaster "The Fault in Our Stars"
There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes bravery involves you laying down your life for something bigger than yourself, or for someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you have ever known, or everyone you have ever loved, for the sake of something greater.
But sometimes it doesn't.
Sometimes it is nothing more than gritting your teeth through pain, and the work of every day, the slow walk towards a better life.
That is the sort of bravery I must have now.
~Tobias Eaton "Allegiant" the third and final book in the Divergent series.
"The gods send me the greatest heroes, the ones I cannot help but..."
"You fall in love with them, and then they leave you."
"That is my curse."
~Leo Valdez and Calypso "House of Hades" the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series.
