@letlivkook |  ohh, interesting question to get to debate in English class !! personally, i believe the answer is more complex than a simple that or that, depending on what the question meant to ask — does the *movie* itself fit in eiher one of these categories? I do not think so. I believe that a form of artistic creativity which *creates* a new and alien culture, one that builds a new civilisation up as the main focus of a story, cannot be either cultural appropriation or appreciation because of the very act of creation involved. Na'vi may have been inspired by a large array of human things, but seeing the movie through human lenses beats the purpose of it, and the purpose of art as a whole as well — one isn't supposed to see the humanity of a Na'vi anymore than one is supposed to watch Lord of the Rings and believe that the lands of elves or dwarves reassemble actual countries visited or heard of by the viewer. The act of enjoying a sci-fi and fantasy setting is supposed to involve the act of forgetting the real world and immersing yourself into another after all.
            On the other hand, if the question tries to get down to the bone of it in the actual story of the movie, as in, does the "avatar program" fit in either category of appreciation vs appropriation, I believe that's where the answer gets absolutely clear with a single example: Jake earning his right to ride an ikran stands for "appreciation" while Quaritch speeding the process and forcing himself on an ikran stands for "appropriation".

Those made by me are leaning as much as possible into movie poster or scene manip turned into a cover. I am glad you find them pleasant though ✨️❤️ personally, I only use PicsArt and make them on my phone, hope that helps
