I'm so excited. I stumbled around (again and again) and finally found how to upload a photo for my book cover! One for AGC book 1 and another one for AGC book II. I don't know if you have any time or inclination to read the chapters about sailing. In Book II there is a lot of sailing and a capsize rescue story (ch. 50 I think).

@stormyhumboldt I do plan on reading them, I'm just pretty busy lately :) I'm going to add your story to my library so I can take it on the go with me. Today, I'm writing Chapter 7, and I'm hoping to post it sometime today, because I want to start posting every Friday...do you have a schedule? Admittedly, at the moment, I'm working on character and background stuff, not the actual scene writing...but it's all very important, you know. ;)

I just posted a new chapter to AGC Book II (Ch. 49) which is almost exclusively about sailing on Monterrey Bay. You may find some of the vocabulary and some of the events useful for your writing about sail boats. -----Stormy

Chapters 32 through 36 of "Anatomy of a Gey Cat" (no sex scenes) describe sailing from Monterrey Bay to San Francisco in 1953. You may think sailing a yacht has nothing to do with sailing a larger boat but do not be deceived! The two stories are similar in many ways. Sailing is sailing. If you have already read those chapters, do so again and just focus on the actual sailing and handling of the boat.

The whole idea that you have two girls faking their way along as boys is a great idea and an attention grabber for any genre of story but you must take advantage of that on the cover I think. -----Stormy OK, OK I'll shut up!

If you had a book cover with Biddy and her shore bound friend as young girls dressed as boys (some obvious hints that they were cross dressing some how) and perhaps standing on the deck of a ship (or running like hell to flee from big ugly sailors) you would probably get 1,000 reads within a week. ----Just a thought. (Smile)

"Two Years Before the Mast by Henry Dana is a must read for many reasons. 1) it is the first ever book written about California. 2) It gives a vivid picture of shipboard life in the 1830s before California became a state (1850). 3) Henry Dana was a law student in Boston who took a Sabbatical as an able bodied seaman. Most sailors in those days could not read and write so Dana was a blessed exception.
