A woman named Dorothy Hart lived her whole life in the streets of Maidstone down in the South East. Her family forces her to marry a man she’d never even known of, and he gets her pregnant on the night of their wedding.
Dorothy experiences severe difficulty during this time, and when the first three months of pregnancy have been completed, she has an extremely late miscarriage, leading the man she wed filing a divorce and kicking her out.
After her parents refuse to let he stay with them once more, she moves to Birmingham after hearing work is needed there, specifically in pubs around the city, so she takes her chances and starts a new life there.
After scoring herself a job in the Garrison with a man named Harry Felton, and a strange yet sweet girl named Grace Burgess, she finally decides that this would be her new life, with a small smile upon her face.
One day, she is asked by Harry if she could stay a little longer than needed, it was a Friday night, and with Grace attending to the Shelby brothers, he’d need all the help he could get.
But when the Shelby brothers get involved with Billy Kimber, she’s ordered to stay in the pub with Grace due to the two having “bodies like that”, Arthur Shelby finally gets a good look at the second newly recruited Barmaid.
His mind flips.
He knows he has had many girls “go down” on him, but this one. Just wow. He had to know who she was, and he’d find out by any means.
