“Prayer is a supernal gift of our Father in Heaven to every soul. Think of it: the absolute Supreme Being, the most all-knowing, all-seeing, all-powerful personage, encourages you and me, as insignificant as we are, to converse with Him as our Father. Actually, because He knows how desperately we need His guidance, He commands, “Thou shalt pray vocally as well as in thy heart; yea, before the world as well as in secret, in public as well as in private.” - Elder Richard G. Scott [D&C 19:28]

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” - Leo Buscaglia

“I am a writer,
I cannot make you believe,
But I can make you read,
I can take you to places,
You’ve never been,
I can take you to places,
That have never been,
I can only show you,
But I cannot create,
For only he can,
Who has created me.
          I am a writer,
And I can make you numb,
But I can make you read,
And let you feel again,
Such pain that you’ve never seen,
Such pain, that has never been,
I can only make you feel,
But I can’t write to make you see,
For only he can,
Who has shown me.”

“Jealousy. Anger. Resentment. Bitterness.

These are the things which build the fires that burn us. Each is fuel for the flames and we are the ones that tend it. Love acts as a trickling, yet constant stream pouring onto the base of the fire from above. We can let our emotions add the coals of anger, or the volatile gasoline of jealousy, or even ignore our pains and let a wave of love temporarily shield us from the fire at our feet. But given enough time, when the flares of emotion subside, the water of real love will extinguish the flame. It isn’t always a matter of forgiving, merely accepting. You may still carry the burning scars from the fire, but in time, the open burns heal and the pain recedes. Healing simply takes time, as does acceptance and forgiveness. They are not a fanfare of epiphany that dawns on you with the morning sun. But rather, they are more like the quiet and lonesome moon, drifting slowly through the daunting night, granting a dull, numbing realization and understanding that frees you from the bonds which keep you near the fire.”

When life is easy, comfortable, convenient, who cares? Who bothers to become alert? When a friend dies, there is a possibility. When your woman leaves you alone—those dark nights, you are lonely. You have loved that woman so much and you have staked all, and then suddenly one day she is gone. Crying in your loneliness, those are the occasions when, if you use them, you can become aware. The pain is not to make you miserable, the pain is to make you more aware! And when you are aware, misery disappears.
