          But the truth was, I had seen the gun go off, the bullet zipping through the air. I had heard the sound of pure pain that ripped from Cameron's throat less than an instant later, the thud of his body as it hit the floor, his head colliding with a stray table.
          I gritted my teeth and, for the first time that day, I actually felt something stir within me; an ache of sorts in my chest.
          Ignoring it, I let out a shaky breath and touched the blade to my friend's skin.

          I held my breath along with the twins beside me. It was then and there that I concluded that Elissa was insane. I had only known her for a few days but, in that time, she had gone through too many personality changes for anything to be real. Did she really care about saving 'innocent' Powerful Bloods or was she just collecting us for another purpose? Was any smile that ever lay on her lips actually real? Did she really feel anything - even platonically - for either Cameron or me? Never before had I doubted a person so much.

Hello all! I know that, as of late, I've been really inactive on here. But, now that the holidays are over and I'm back at school, I have more of an organised schedule. I'm going to continue uploading chapters of A World on Fire and I'm restarting the editing process for They're Lying. Thank you for all your support!

          The flames whipped around my head, caressing my cheek and sending a breath of warmth down my spine. I closed my eyes, not wanting to watch as much as I wanted to feel the air racing past me. Because, it didn't feel like I was falling. It was more that the fire and the air were working hand in hand to pass me safely down to the boy who may as well have been a magnet, and I the iron that was irrevocably attracted to him.

          The silence hanging over the table was almost unbearable and I felt the need to break it with a wistful statement that would snap everyone out of their disconnected moods. I hated it. It was just horrible to be sitting with a fair few other people yet feel as though you may as well be alone.

          "I'll have a cup of tea with two sugars, please." I almost cursed myself for saying please and conveying that I actually had any ounce of respect for that woman after what she had said - yet it was what I was brought up to say whenever making requests and I wasn't about to abandon years of being told to always use my manners. 
          Habits are not as easily broken as hearts, after all.

          The skyscrapers stood tall, though they looked ready to topple at any given moment. And, under them, were the buildings that looked somewhat cute and huddled together beneath the towering office blocks, but I couldn't help but imagine them flattened beneath a pile of metal beams and glass. The rising sun set a rosy light behind the silhouettes of each building as it climbed higher in the sky, yet all I saw was a ball of light bleeding into the clouds. The truth was, there was destruction and ruin and flaws and faults all around us in every day. It was a blessing to see everything as perfect and a curse to see things for what they truly are. 
          It seemed that I was cursed.
