Keys to Excellent writing(in my opinion)
• Give a reader what they like but not what they expect I personally don't want to read a story were I know the end 
• show a character's personality without making making it like a character sheet try to wrap it into the story, physical appearance is fine 
• NO ONE IS PERFECT neither are characters give them flaws 
• people mess up sometimes so your character should to
