Saw someone say that el's death had to happen as she was more of a magedon(?)/plot device then a character (hence why despite being a main character, she wasnt very well rounded just known as a friend from the lab), and her dying represents the kids leaving behind the joy and magic of their childhood. just so yk via has not been the same since then

the creatures of the upside down seem to respond to el more violently then anyone else, as if aware of who she is . . .
