Implement mandatory sentencing for knife possession in the uk
My friend Harley, was stabbed 12 times on the 9th of January 2023, two days later he passed as a result of his injuries. He was only 16.
We've spent 10 months getting justice for Harley, and his murderer was found guilty earlier this month, and will be sentenced in December.
As grateful as we all are to have justice for Harley, it's not enough. Just this year in London 16 teenagers have lost their lives to knives. This needs to change.
If someone is caught carrying a crowbar, gloves and a mask, they would be arrested, charged and sentenced with conspiracy to commit burglary or theft. However if someone is caught with a knife, and known to be plotting to harm or kill someone, they're not sentenced with conspiracy to commit murder or actual/grievous body harm.
This petition aims to change that. Under Harley's Law, anyone caught carrying a knife would be sentenced to time in prison, this would become a deterrent and hopefully reduce the amount of knife crime in the uk, and prevent more innocent lives from being taken far too early.
Harley was only 16. He had no past involvement with violence, gangs or knives. Harley didn't deserve to be stabbed and murdered, and no other child or adult in the uk should either, please help us make Harley's Law a reality by signing today <3
