The Delight of Worms
Jane: Before them, my closest friends
Came and found me
I was sad, I was fearful
One could even say depressed
I was taught that acne rots
I thought I was withering away
I sat at the mirror and picked for hours
Trying to remove all of the decay
I was damaged, dying slowly,
Constantly crying, always lonely…
[Lonely motif nort nort]
Then the hive came by
And wiped my tears away!
And showed me the delight of worms!
Companions that stay by your side!
Companions that won’t cheat or lie
That make you feel okay!
The Worms are always there for me
The Worms don’t seem to plan to leave
The Worms are far less filthy
Better than a human friend could ever be!
The delight of worms…
[JANE spots MARTIN’s phone lying on the ground nearby.]
Jane: Hm?
[JANE picks up the phone and opens it bc it doesn’t have a password on it somehow.]
Jane, reading out what she’s typing: Hey, Jon, wydtn? Winky-smile, send.
Jon, responding, stylized as him actually talking: Martin, I’m busy.
You never text me…what the hell?
Jane: Three missed calls from Jonathan Sims…
Eh.
[JANE clears her throat.]
Jane: And I’ve learned to live with the dirt
They live in me and I live with them
And in return they provide me with
A mending bandage for my hurt!
And so what if acne rots?
Because now I can proudly say
Some would care if I lived or died now!
And they’re here with me every day!
No more damage, no more feeling lowly
No longer crying or feeling lonely!
Now I have the delight of worms!
Companions that stay by my side!
Companions that won’t cheat or lie
That make me feel so great!
The Worms are always there for me
The Worms don’t seem to plan or scheme
The Worms are far less filthy
Better than a human friend could ever be!
The delight of worms…
[JANE picks up the phone and texts again]
Jane, mimicking Martin: You’re so cute, Archivist!
Jon, overlapping Jane’s next words: What—?
Jane: The delight of worms!
