So in Book One, Melanie’s face is finally revealed. Before that, she was kind of mysterious— She ends up running into Edge again when he randomly shows up at her job during lunch. Melanie tries to get Edge to reach out to Randy, but Edge and Randy hate each other. Randy believes Edge knew where Melanie was the entire time he was locked up and never said anything.
Randy actually served about 13 years in prison not four (the four years was honestly unrealistic lol). After getting out, he lives with Kevin Owens, who takes him in as a roommate because everyone else has families and couldn’t do it. Like Cody for example.
Randy and Melanie only communicate by phone—they never meet in person in this book. They don’t even know what the other looks like. But there's been weird flirting going around and control coming from him. Randy’s been out of wrestling since he briefly held the championship in 2003, so all Melanie has are old 2002 photos of him. Also, at no point in Book One is Randy in a mental facility.
Melanie is in a first relationship with her longtime college friend, Eli but it’s really strained. Eli thinks her concern for Randy is unhealthy—especially after Randy sends over more than a thousand roses with a suspicious note to Melanie’s apartment… without her ever telling him her address.
Booker publicly spoke on the shooting incident and before, it pushed Melanie to write a memoir—her way of reclaiming the narrative and telling her side of the story instead of letting everyone else define it for her. Edge ends up helping move the memoir forward, acting as a bridge between her truth and the public.
I can’t go into what happens in the last two chapters without spoiling it lol.
