so, there's something important that I need to discuss. If you are in any way connected to Writeblr, you have probably seen the recent discourse about asian wips written by white people. I summary, the post talked about the fetishizing of minority groups and how slippery of a slope it is for inspiration to become cherry-picking to become general racial insensitivity.
I first starting observing this discourse because I myself had a wip that was based off of Chinese culture. Language of the Lost follows the story of Sun Meiyue being a young girl who stole a wish from the universe and essentially becoming a god. The story would deal with themes of devotion, humanity, the nature of existence, acceptance, and family. I am deleting this work because I do not feel like I should write it.
I myself am a white female and risk wandering into that bad-zone. In fact, I believe I already have wandered there. The story of LOTL may someday return but in a different form. Right now, I need to take a step back, reevaluate the intentions I had behind creating these characters, and reassess my style of portrayal. Thank you for respecting this decision and I'm sorry to anyone who was looking forward to reading LOTL. Someday I may be able to write it, but for now, there are underlying insensitivities that I do not want to remain in the public eye.
Thank you for respecting this decision,
Maria, Zimavich
