Hello, babes! If you haven't read my book, The Things We Carry, let me give you a little background on why I wrote this.
          
          First off, let’s make one thing crystal clear: this is no hate to other fics at all! I read those fanfics to this day, and I still have some saved in my favorites because they are genuinely good. But if you're anything like me, you reach a point where you're trying to find stories featuring us, and you realize there just aren't enough out there. I wanted to bless the girlies with this because I wanted to see a Black woman centered in a story with Michael—a proud Southern Black woman from Mississippi.
          
          Let’s also address the elephant in the room, because people tend to forget. Everyone gets so hyper-focused on the eras where Lisa Marie or Debbie Rowe took over, and they totally gloss over the truth: Michael is a Black man. He comes from a loud, chaotic, loving Black family, he has dated his own race before, and behind closed doors away from the publicist-approved cameras, his vernacular, his comfort zone, and his real self reflected those roots. People love to sanitize Mike, but seeing a Black man with a Black woman? Let's just say Mike has real good taste, okay?
          
          So, because we're keeping this all the way authentic, you're going to see real conversations, natural Southern/Black vernacular, and heavy language (yes, including "nigga" and all the words we actually use when we're talking, playing around, or pissed off).
          
          This book doesn't shy away from heavy topics either. We are diving into real life, which means dealing with racism, raw and messy grief, dying, explicit intimate scenes, and all the emotional weight in between.
          
          I wrote this book for my girls, for myself, and to remind people of what real, culturally rooted love looks like. No shade to anyone, no rudeness intended—I just wanted to write something that felt like home.
