I graduated from the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts in August 2012 with an MFA in fiction. I am a writer, teacher, and mom - not necessarily in that order. I live in Post Falls, Idaho and teach high school English as a Second Language in Spokane, Washington. My husband is a Civil Engineer by day and punk rock guitarist by night. I have two awesome step children and a 1 1/2 year old toddler. He is pretty much my life right now, but I try to sneak in some writing when he is asleep.
I have a degree in film, and another in communications. I served in the Peace Corps for two years in Armenia, and taught for two years in Sapporo, Japan with the JET Programme. I love to travel, but have always had to have a job waiting for me at my destination, because I never have money. However, I have found that putting down roots in another culture is the best way to gain an understanding of it.
My writing has appeared in Soundings Review, Rind, and Bacopa Literary review, among others. Most recently, I have a story in Tom Hazuka's "Flash Fiction Funny." I am currently working on a YA novel and dipping my toes into the realm of nonfiction. I am also a voracious reader.
Aside from the job(s), travel, and the family, I also rock climb, bike, and tried my first triathlon over Labor Day weekend. I did not finish. I made it through the swim and the bike, but was dead last by at least half hour, so felt guilty and didn't want the crew to have to wait for me to finish the run. :-)
