In 2025, Hanukkah begins amidst an antisemitic massacre in Australia.
Hanukkah celebrates light against darkness. But the persecution of Jews is not just a thing of the past.
Today, on the first day of the celebration, an event at Bondi Beach in Sydney was the scene of a violent attack that left at least 16 dead (the numbers continue to rise) and at least 60 injured. The historical memory of the festival becomes, once again, a call for vigilance, remembrance, and the defense of life. My heart breaks to see these scenes happening again, and the comparison with the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023, and the terrible realization that Jews will never be safe is inevitable.
Different attacks, the same hatred towards Jews.
For 12 long minutes, Muslim terrorists fired on Jews who had come to celebrate the Festival of Lights, Hanukkah in Hebrew. According to witnesses, the four police officers deployed at the scene remained motionless and in a state of shock, unable to react immediately to stop this massacre. Elderly people, children, men and women, all were targets of this anti-Semitic terror.
One of the victims present at the festival is also a survivor of the Hamas massacre in southern Israel, where he has lived for 13 years. His trip to Australia, where he has been for two weeks, was precisely to offer support to the Australian Jewish community, given the increase in antisemitic incidents in the country.
"We've been through this before. We will overcome it," he told local media.
The Jewish people will prevail and continue to bring light to the world.
This is what "globalize the intifada" means. You supported terrorist groups, and these groups are carrying out attacks against Jews around the world. You supported these people entering and dominating your countries.
The fight against antisemitism and terrorism is a duty for everyone who truly cares about human rights!
