‼✎ . . i want to encourage everyone reading this to check if their wattpad account has been pwned. pwned means that your data has been compromised. to check if you've been pwned, go to haveibeenpwned.com.
why?
i'm 50% sure that most of you know about the breach that happened with millions of wattpad users back in june. if you don't: basically a private company got into wattpad's userbase data & sold it for 100k, which turned free once they put it up later (i believe it was the dark/deep web or something).
taken from the email that wattpad has sent to me, which includes what information has been taken:
⠀ ★ Email address
⠀ ★ Date of birth and gender (if provided)
⠀ ★ IP address upon sign up, if signed up before 2017
⠀ ★ Profile display name
⠀ ★ Account name and salted and cryptographically hashed passwords
⠀ ★ Responses provided to surveys distributed in 2015 or earlier
⠀ ★ List of Paid Stories and chapter titles purchased by a user
⠀ ★ Any third-party account IDs, such as Google or Facebook
⠀ ★ Passwords associated with third-party accounts are not stored on our systems and are unaffected.
(*i believe third-party ID's mean usernames)
again, this happened back in june, so if anything rash had happened it would've been done already, but it's better to be safe. if your account has been pwned, please change your password if it is used for any other account, more specifically your email and anything else mentioned.
i'll update here if anything else happens, but this should be it.

✎ . . oh! quick before i leave, (i didn't find this out until now) the excerpts i'm getting are from the official statement from wattpad themselves, which is also a copy-paste of the email they have sent to myself and others. i don't think all accounts got said email, especially since i only got it on this account.
anyway, here's a few more paragraphs:
⠀ ★ ❝ We want to stress that Wattpad does not store plain text passwords; all Wattpad passwords are encrypted. User stories, private messages, and phone numbers were NOT part of this incident. Financial or payment information are not stored on affected systems and, based on the investigation to date, were not affected in this incident.
⠀ ★ ❝ Although we use encryption to store passwords, as a precaution, we are taking steps to enhance the standards we use for passwords on our platform and we are recommending you change your password on Wattpad and any other third-party accounts where you use the same password. Here is a link to our Help Centre article to guide you through the process. Please note that Wattpad will never ask you for your password except to sign in to your account, and we will only do this on the Wattpad domain. (link is https://support.wattpad.com/hc/en-us/articles/211235843-Resetting-or-changing-your-password)
⠀ ★ ❝ Practicing password hygiene — such as changing passwords on a regular basis, not using the same password more than once, and using a password manager — is highly recommended, and makes it less likely that a bad actor could gain access to accounts across services that use the same password.
